The 7th International Student’s Ecology and  Environment Forum Was Successfully Concluded

On November 30th to December 1st, the 7th International Student’s Ecology and Environment Forum with the theme of "Ecological Civilization and Green Transformation" was held at Beijing Normal University.The ISEEF is a combination of online and offline form for global live broadcast. The conference was organized by Beijing Normal University and Beijing Society for Environmental Science, and hosted by School of Environment, the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, Beijing Normal University, and the Environmental Education Branch of Beijing Society for Environmental Science the School of Environment.

General-secretary Gao Chengjie and Director of Science Popularization Propaganda and Activities Department Qiu Haichun from Beijing Society for Environmental Science have attended the opening ceremony of this Forum. The opening ceremony was presented by Xu Linyu, Managing Director of the Beijing Society for Environmental Science, Chair of the Environmental Education Branch of Beijing Society for Environmental Science, and the Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Environment, BNU.

Dean Shen Zhenyao first expressed a warm welcome and sincere thanks to the teachers and students attending the ISEEF and briefly introduced the development process of the School of Environment of Beijing Normal University and the International Student Environment and Ecology Forum. He hoped the attendees could share their views on this forum and give advice for Ecological Civilization and Green Transformation.

        Vice Director Li Zhongshan, on behalf of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation of Beijing Normal University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He stressed that Beijing Normal University has always attached great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. He hoped that the participants could actively contribute to solving global environmental problems and promoting the construction of ecological civilization.

He Kebin, the Director General of the Ecological Civilization Education & Research Branch of China Association of Higher Education, Dean of the Institute for Carbon Neutrality at Tsinghua University, Fellow of Chinese Academy of Engineering, made a speech and pointed out that in the current context of increasingly severe global ecological and environmental challenges, green transformation is urgently needed. We must promote a comprehensive green transformation of the economy and society with a scientific spirit and a pragmatic attitude. This requires us to not only focus on technological innovation and research and development to improve resource utilization efficiency but also strengthen international cooperation to jointly address the challenges posed by climate change and must strengthen scientific research cooperation to jointly tackle the technological challenges in green transformation, contributing wisdom and strength to sustainable development worldwide.

       Next, as the hostess, Professor Xu Linyu sincerely thanked the Beijing Society of Environmental Science for its continued strong support and sponsorship. As the managing director of Beijing Environmental Science Society, she introduced its historical development, service focus, work highlights, and other aspects on behalf of the society and its Environmental Education Branch.

        Dr. Andrea Appolloni, Professor at Tor Vergata University in Rome, Italy, Atsushi Watabe, Institute Programme Director for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Peter Holzapfel, Researcher, of Environmental Technology Institute, Berlin University of Technology, gave three wonderful keynote speeches. The title of Andrea Appollonis report is “Leading a new era of digital supply chains, improving sustainability in global complex world.” The title of Atsushi Watabes report is “Sustainable Living as Societal Unlearning Processes. The title of Peter Holzapfel report is Towards supply chain specific electricity accounting in life cycle assessment : Challenges and solutions.

        The three well-prepared keynote speeches were thought-provoking. The students thought actively, asked questions, and interacted with the keynote speakers. Associate Professor Tian Xin from the School of Environment chaired the keynote speeches.

After the three wonderful theme reports, there was a poster display session. The participating students visited and studied the posters themselves and had in-depth communication with the poster makers. Finally, they voted for their favorite posters, this link has greatly deepened everyone's sense of participation.

Six parallel sessions regarding four major topics were held in the afternoon, dealing respectively with Environmental Pollution Prevention and Collaborative Governance for Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Reduction, Green Transformation and Low-carbon Development, Responding and Adaption for Climate Change, Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control and Ecological Restoration sharing research results.

The Forum attracted 158 international students from domestic and foreign universities. They come from China, Italy, Hungary, Pakistan, Peru, Jordan, Nepal, Iran, Zambia, Algeria, Uganda, and Ecuador, and were students of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China Agricultural University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Beijing University of Technology, Tongji University, Nanjing University, Nankai University, Tianjin University, The Education University of Hong Kong, Fuzhou University, Zhengzhou University, Central China Normal University, Chang'an University, Hunan University, Chengdu University of Technology, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, University of South China, Beijing Normal University, and other institutions.

Next, the award ceremony was held, and the first, second, and third prizes were awarded to outstanding oral report students. Lecture Zhai Yujia from the School of Environment chaired the ceremony.

At last, Secretary of the Party Committee Xu Linyu delivered a speech for the closing ceremony. She thanked all participant, all the support from BNU and other research institutions, as well as the hard work of the organizing committee. She pointed out that The International Students’ Ecology and Environment Forum will continue focusing on pressing global environmental and ecological research topics and improve its influence and reach. Vice Dean Xu congratulated the oral presenters well-deserved success and hoped all students could uphold their determination through their academic and career endeavors. She also expressed high expectations for the next years ISEEF.

The successful convening of the ISEEF provides a good platform for international students' academic exchanges.
